Christoph’s talk title: Open Up to the Organ

Christoph Bull is a concert organist, pianist, composer and singer-songwriter who has performed around the world at venues ranging from the Catholic Cathedrals of Moscow, Saint-Denis, Salzburg and Los Angeles to concert halls such as Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Lincoln Center in New York City to rock clubs like The Viper Room, The Roxy and The Whisky A Go Go.
He is the creator of the genre-crossing multi-media series organica; his collaborators include live painter Norton Wisdom, dubstep DJ Asura, dancer Nehara Kalev, videographer Benton-C Bainbridge and he’s been a contributor to projects by artists such as Harry Connick Jr., Steven Spielberg, Cindy Lauper, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Lili Haydn, Nishat Khan, L.A. Master Chorale and Southwest Chamber Music.
Christoph improvised his first tunes on the piano at age five and started playing church services, organ concerts and rock shows at age twelve. Still a teenager, he was a member of the German National Youth Orchestra (Bundesjugendorchester) and part of a 20-year study on highly gifted musicians by Prof. Hans Günther Bastian (Universities of Bonn, Paderborn and Frankfurt; Mozarteum).
He has won first and second prizes in numerous organ and songwriting competitions, including Jugend Musiziert, Chamber Music Competition of the City of Bad Dürkheim, Michael Masser Songwriting Competition, Berklee Songwriting Competition, International Organ Competition Marcello Galanti.
Christoph Bull holds degrees from Berklee College of Music, University of Southern California and American Conservatory of Music. His teachers include Cherry Rhodes, Paul Jordan, Samuel Swartz, Charlie Banacos, Hermann Schaeffer, Ludwig Doerr, and Ingrid Kling. He’s also participated in master classes with Marie-Claire Alain, Guy Bovet, Rudolf Lutz, Craig Cramer, and William Peterson.
He’s been the organist at Blessed Sacrament Church Hollywood, Christuskirche Glendale, First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica as well as university organist and organ professor at UCLA. In addition to being an international recitalist, he’s also produced numerous albums in the fields of classical, rock, pop and educational music.
